Summary: These data were collected to examine the growth of slave trade to Jamaica, the internal dynamics of its volume, and how it compared with other trades both within the British Empire and with other leading slave trade routes of other European powers. The study was conducted to examine systematically the actual commercial and navel organization of the trade to this island.

The data file contains information on date of arrival, type of ship, name of ship, captain, Jamaican port of arrival, ship tonnage, guns, crew, registration, number of slaves, goods carried, place and date ship built, port of origin of slaves, initial port of embarcation from England, date ship left England.
