Characteristics of Census Tracts in Nine U.S. Cities, 1940-1960.

Compiled by David Elesh, University of Wisconsin Department of Sociology

Data on the 1960 characteristics of census tracts and the physicians located within them were collected for nine cities: Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Newark, New Orleans, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh. In addition, 1940 and 1950 data are available for Chicago and Detroit. Variables were kept as comparable as possible, but certain city-specific differences do exist.
